Welcome to my website!
I have been working with Burnley CLP in Burnley and Padiham since 2001, implementing the Constituency Development Plan on behalf of my union Amicus with Burnley CLP.
In this time I have become very familiar with the issues and problems that face the community, and specifically the Labour Party, in Burnley and Padiham.
I have had first hand experience, through doorstep campaigning, consultation with community groups and contact with members, of the concerns and hopes of the people of Burnley and Padiham.
Specifically, the BNP gaining a foothold in Burnley constitutes a serious threat to the traditional Labour values of equality and dignity for all that have been strongly represented in Burnley for so long. The detrimental effect of this is not only felt locally. We have to work together to ensure that Burnley is no longer associated with a success of the extreme right, but with success in rebuilding a social and economic environment that allows the flourishing of a lively, diverse and stable community true to Labour values.
Peter Pike, who has served Burnley and Padiham very effectively as an MP for over 20 years, has decided to stand down at the next General Election. Through my intensive work in Burnley, I believe I am well-placed to carry on his work, serving and representing the people of Burnley and Padiham. I have therefore decided to put my name forward in the selection to become his successor.
My job as a Full Time Official with Amicus, as well as my work at regional and national levels of the Labour Party, my involvement in the consultation and Policy-making process through the National Policy Forum and in formulating the Government's Manufacturing Strategy, have given me the skills and experience to deliver real changes for Burnley, at all levels of decision-making.
I have support as a prospective candidate from my own union Amicus, and, at this stage, from the unions TGWU, CWU,GMB and GPMU.
The selection process started in November and I am proud to have been shortlisted. I recieved 9 nominations and the support of many local Labour activists, party members, trade unions and community groups alike. The members of Burnley Labour Party will decide at a special meeting next Thursday 12th Febuary at 7pm who they want as their next parliamentary candidate. The meeting will be held at Byerden House on 191 Colne Rd. Members that applied for a postal vote should have by now recieved it. If not contact Peter Kenyon the proceedures secretary at The Labour Party Offices 2 Victoria St Burnley.
I hope you will feel able to consider me as your prospective Parliamentary candidate.
Please feel free to contact me if you would like me to attend your branch, ward or community group meeting, if you would like to discuss any issues you are concerned about, or if you would just like some more information.
I hope you will find this site a useful resource that will provide you with information on the most recent campaigning activities, issues affecting Burnley and Padiham and links to sites with more relevant information.
